About Lightbeam Insight

Hi, I’m Dave Wood — an engineering leader, indie app developer, and the voice behind Lightbeam Insight.

This site is where I share what I’ve learned from two decades in tech: managing mobile engineering teams by day, building creative tools by night, and navigating the space between the two. I write here about where the industry is heading, what it’s really like to lead modern dev teams, and the lessons I’ve picked up launching my own apps.

👨‍💻 My Background

By trade, I’m a mobile engineering manager — leading cross-platform teams in high-stakes environments, with a focus on scalable architecture, developer experience, and healthy team culture.

But I’m also the maker behind Lightbeam Apps — tools like GoVJ, Focus, and Looper — built for creators, VJs, and anyone who wants to play with real-time visuals.

Over the years I’ve coached dozens of engineers, helped teams evolve from chaos to clarity, and stayed hands-on with code, architecture, and design systems across platforms.

🎙️ Beyond the Code

I host a podcast where I unpack the real conversations behind tech, burnout, leadership, and creativity. No buzzwords. Just honest insight.

I’m also exploring a new chapter: offering 1:1 coaching for engineers, leads, and indie makers looking to grow their craft or navigate their career.

💡 Why “Lightbeam Insight”?

Lightbeam started as a brand for the creative tools I build — but it’s always been about more than apps. It’s about shining a light on how we really work in tech: the systems, stories, and struggles behind the scenes.

This site is my space to share those insights with the wider world.
